Książ Castle stands in the north of Wałbrzych, in Poland's Lower Silesia, on a wooded spur above the gorge of the Pełcznica river. It is the largest castle in Silesia and the third-largest in Poland, behind only Malbork and Wawel. Building began in the late 13th century under the dukes of Świdnica; over the next seven hundred years it grew from a border stronghold into a sprawling residence of terraces, halls and towers wrapped in forest.
In its most famous chapter the castle belonged to the Hochberg family, and in the early 20th century to Princess Daisy — Mary Theresa Olivia Cornwallis-West, the English-born beauty whose glamour and heartbreak still shadow the rooms. Then came the war: from 1943 Nazi Germany requisitioned Książ and drove tunnels deep beneath it as part of 'Riese', a colossal underground project that was never finished. Today you can walk both worlds — the gilded halls above and the raw rock passages below.
Książ Castle Tickets is an independent concierge service. We help international visitors reserve genuine entry in English, choose the right combination of castle, tunnels and Palm House, and receive a ready-to-use mobile ticket — so your day starts at the gate, not in a queue.
